On Wednesday, Brazilian football icon Roberto Carlos announced that he recently underwent a preventive heart procedure. He took to social media to clarify that he did not suffer a heart attack and is currently recuperating in a hospital in São Paulo.

“I would like to address the recent information circulating about my health,” the former full-back stated. “I underwent a planned preventative medical procedure with my medical team. The procedure was successful, and I am doing well.”

Carlos expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, “I did not experience a heart attack. I am recovering well and look forward to returning to full fitness and resuming my professional and personal commitments soon. I sincerely thank everyone for their messages of support and concern. I want to reassure everyone that there is no cause for alarm, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire medical team who cared for me.”

At 52 years old, Roberto Carlos is celebrated as one of the greatest full-backs in football history. His illustrious career includes winning the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, alongside four La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid from 1996 to 2007. He was also recognized as a runner-up for the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 1997 and for the Ballon d’Or in 2002.
