Roberto De Zerbi Departs from Marseille After Heavy DefeatRoberto De Zerbi Departs from Marseille After Heavy Defeat

omidbasir- Roberto De Zerbi, head coach of Olympique de Marseille, has officially left the club following a significant 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

The former Brighton manager guided Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, but now finds himself linked to the managerial position at Tottenham should the north London club decide to part ways with Thomas Frank.

Following the loss, Marseille currently sits fourth in the league, 12 points behind PSG, and has been eliminated from the Champions League this season. The club released a statement revealing that, after discussions among key stakeholders—including the owner, president, director of football, and the coach—a decision was made to change leadership within the first team.

The statement read: “This was a difficult collective decision, made after careful consideration in the best interests of the club, in order to address the sporting challenges we face for the remainder of the season.”

Marseille expressed gratitude to De Zerbi for his dedication, commitment, and professionalism, which were especially notable during the team’s successful campaign last season.

The club extended its best wishes to him for the future.

On Tuesday, club president Pablo Longoria, sporting director Mehdi Benatia, and De Zerbi addressed the players, during which it became evident that the relationship between the departing manager and the squad had deteriorated significantly, as reported by sources to ESPN.
