Rodri s Future at Manchester City Speculations and InsightsRodri s Future at Manchester City Speculations and Insights

omidbasir- Rodri’s long-term future at Manchester City appears uncertain as he approaches the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. Real Madrid has frequently been speculated as a likely destination for the midfielder.

Historically, Real Madrid has been adept at enticing players to complete their contracts before making a free transfer to the Bernabeu, as evidenced by recent high-profile transfers including Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger. However, Spanish football legend Gaizka Mendieta believes Rodri might have other aspirations.

In a statement to BetBrothers, Mendieta remarked, “When he eventually leaves Manchester City, I could envision a potential agreement with the club. There is a significant connection with Barcelona, given Txiki Begiristain’s role and Pep Guardiola’s involvement. However, the decision ultimately rests with Rodri. I find it challenging to imagine him joining Real Madrid.”

Mendieta further speculated that Rodri is likely to want to remain at City and regain the form he exhibited just before his serious injury in 2024, a month prior to winning the Ballon d’Or.

He stated, “Personally, I find it hard to envision him leaving, especially considering Rodri’s strong attachment to the club. It would require an extreme situation for him to depart, rather than a desire to seek new opportunities. I believe he is motivated to stay and perform at the level he achieved while contending for the Ballon d’Or and Champions League titles. This is his challenge, and he wishes to prove himself to the club and its supporters.”

However, Mendieta acknowledged that one factor could influence Rodri’s future in Manchester: the potential departure of Pep Guardiola. Speculation abounds regarding the legendary coach’s exit at the end of the season, marking his tenth year at the club. Guardiola has consistently refrained from commenting on these rumors, emphasizing his commitment to the team with one year remaining on his contract.

In December, he stated, “For the past three or four years, whenever someone poses this question, I understand the curiosity, especially when my contract is nearing its end. However, I still have 18 months left, and I am incredibly happy and excited about the team’s development. That is all I can share. There have been no discussions regarding my future, and when the time comes, it will be addressed. I will not be here eternally, but there are no current discussions.”

Under Guardiola’s leadership, City has secured six Premier League titles in eight attempts and achieved its first Champions League victory in 2023. His departure would undoubtedly cast a significant shadow over the club, and Mendieta believes this could prompt Rodri to reconsider his future.

He concluded, “If there are to be any changes at the club, I think Rodri will start contemplating his future once Pep departs.”
