Morgan Rogers has had a slow start to the current season, reminiscent of Aston Villa’s initial struggles. The former Middlesbrough star appeared lethargic and uninspired, a far cry from his impressive performances last season. By late August, he hinted at a potential departure from Villa, despite expressing his happiness at the club.

Rogers stated, “I’m happy here [Aston Villa]. I love football. I enjoy nothing more than stepping onto the pitch and playing. My focus is solely on the game, and I cannot predict what the next 12 months will hold. My priority is to enjoy football and showcase my abilities.”

Recently, however, the England international has found his form again, excelling for both his club and country. Reports from The Athletic indicate that he is set to sign a new contract extending to 2031, which would place him among Villa’s highest earners.

Although Rogers had a challenging start to the season, England manager Thomas Tuchel has shown unwavering support for him, even favoring him over Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. Following England’s 3-0 victory over Wales last month, Tuchel praised Rogers, saying, “Morgan was outstanding, just like the rest of the team. He is humble and physical, with the ability to both score and assist. Last season, he had a fantastic run and rightfully earned the title of the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season. He is a crucial part of the team, and we are ready for collaborative efforts.”

Rogers is in high demand from top clubs both in the Premier League and internationally. Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, has encouraged him to elevate his performance. Currently, Rogers has recorded one goal and three assists in 15 appearances this season, a notable dip from his impressive total of 30 goal contributions last term.

In October, he remarked, “Every player relies on the team. They need a structured environment to feel at ease and confident. Morgan Rogers is developing alongside the team’s improvement, as he feels secure enough to display his skills. The goals, assists, and confidence to tackle opponents are progressively unfolding as the team grows. We must also support other players to reach the level Morgan is achieving. I expect to see continual improvement and for him to surpass last season’s numbers.”

Like Rogers, Aston Villa has bounced back from a sluggish start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, although they currently sit in 11th place. Their next match is at home against Bournemouth this Sunday, just before the international break. Following that, Rogers may have an opportunity to represent England in the final two World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania on November 13 and 16, respectively.
