Romero Critiques Club s Decisions Amid Injuries and Transfer Window ClosureRomero Critiques Club s Decisions Amid Injuries and Transfer Window Closure

Cristian Romero recently voiced his concerns on Instagram regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s management after their 2-2 draw against Manchester City and the conclusion of the transfer window. With 13 players sidelined due to injury, including notable names like James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison, Romero himself fell ill during the match. In the aftermath and with the transfer window closed, the only arrivals were Conor Gallagher and Brazilian left-back Souza.

In his post, Romero stated, “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday; they were incredible. I wished to be available to support them despite not feeling well, especially given that only 11 players were fit to play—unbelievable but true and disgraceful.”

He added, “We will continue to show up and take responsibility to turn this situation around, working hard and staying united. I want to express my gratitude to our fans for their unwavering support, @spursofficial.”

In response to questions about Romero’s comments during a pre-Manchester United press conference, Coach Frank emphasized that such matters are handled internally. He remarked, “The beauty of written text is that it can be interpreted in various ways. Nobody knows what he meant except Cuti [Romero] or those who have spoken to him. Everything is dealt with internally.”

Frank acknowledged Romero’s passion, stating, “Cuti wants to win and is dedicated to achieving success with his teammates. When you possess that level of ambition, emotional expressions can happen. This is something we have addressed internally.”

This incident is not isolated; it marks the second time in a month that Romero has publicly criticized the club’s operations. Following a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in January, he made veiled comments about “other people”—interpreted as a critique of the club’s hierarchy—suggesting they “tell a few lies” in their statements. Although he later edited this reference, the impact remained.

Frank defended the club’s recent signings, asserting, “We brought in Conor Gallagher, a quality player for the starting XI, and Souza, a promising young talent for the future. While no position is guaranteed, these signings are significant compared to other Premier League clubs.”

He continued, “It is crucial that we make sound decisions calmly—both for the immediate and long-term future. We considered various options, including loans and long-term strategies. We did not aim to sign five players this window.”

As Spurs prepare to face Manchester United this weekend, it remains to be seen whether Romero will maintain his captaincy and starting position for the early fixture.
