Ronald Ara jo Returns to Training After Mental Health BreakRonald Ara jo Returns to Training After Mental Health Break

Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo returned to training on Monday, marking a month since he was granted leave to address his mental health.

The 26-year-old has made 15 appearances for FC Barcelona this season but has not played since November’s Champions League defeat to Chelsea, during which he received a red card.

Following that match, Araújo requested a break to help him regain focus and restore his form. The club promptly approved his request.

During his time away, Araújo undertook a spiritual journey to Bethlehem and Jerusalem to reconnect with his faith and subsequently returned to his native Uruguay, where he trained alone over the Christmas period.

He flew back to Barcelona this past weekend and participated in Monday’s open training session at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, as the LaLiga leaders resumed activities after a week off.

Hansi Flick’s team is preparing for a match against local rivals Espanyol on Saturday. Espanyol has been in strong form, winning their last five league games, as football in Spain resumes following a short winter break.

Araújo is anticipated to be in contention for the upcoming game, alongside teammates Pedri and Dani Olmo, who are also pushing for availability after missing the previous victory over Villarreal.

Following the match against Espanyol, Barcelona will shift their focus to the Spanish Supercopa, facing Athletic Club in a semifinal in Saudi Arabia on January 7, with a potential final against either Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid.
