Ronaldo Shines as Al Nassr Maintains Perfect Start in Saudi Pro LeagueRonaldo Shines as Al Nassr Maintains Perfect Start in Saudi Pro League

Al-Nassr is currently at the top of the Saudi Pro League, having achieved a perfect start to the season with their 10th consecutive victory on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo made a significant impact by scoring twice, while fellow Portuguese player Joao Felix added to the tally late in the match, bringing both players to 12 goals each in the race for the Golden Boot.

Ronaldo’s two goals against Al-Akhdoud marked the 955th and 956th of his illustrious career, with the prospect of reaching the 1,000-goal milestone clearly in sight. Portugal’s head coach, Roberto Martinez, has expressed his belief that Ronaldo will reach this remarkable figure before he retires.

In an interview with the Spanish publication Marca, Martinez stated, “He’s at a very good point in his career. His success stems from living in the moment. He focuses on enjoying each day rather than fixating on long-term goals like reaching 1,000 games. His achievements will naturally follow when he decides to retire. I don’t see it as a goal.”

Reflecting on his motivations, Ronaldo shared his enthusiasm at the Globe Soccer Awards, saying, “It’s a huge pleasure to be at an event with so many prominent sports figures. This gala is one of my favorites because it allows me to meet incredible individuals, including my wife. Although playing is demanding, I still possess the passion and motivation to continue. Whether in the Middle East or Europe, I aim to keep winning titles and reach the well-known milestone. I am confident I will get there as long as I stay injury-free. Enjoy the evening and Happy New Year.”

Looking ahead, Ronaldo is expected to captain Portugal in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese national team successfully secured their place in the tournament, despite facing challenges during qualification. They experienced a setback with a 2-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland, a match in which Ronaldo received a red card. He did not participate in the final group match, where Portugal triumphed over Armenia, prompting discussions about his position in the starting lineup.

However, Martinez has previously articulated the “three pillars” that justify Ronaldo’s continual selection for the national team: talent, experience, and his positive attitude. He emphasized, “The high standards he sets for himself to contribute to the team is what keeps him in the squad. His drive to excel is infectious. Scoring 25 goals in 30 games as a striker demonstrates his significant contribution to the national team.”

As the World Cup approaches, Ronaldo is expected to lead Portugal in their campaign, starting with a match against either Caledonia, Jamaica, or DR Congo, followed by a game against tournament debutants Uzbekistan, and then concluding the group stage against Colombia.

Ronaldo will aim to end 2025 on a high note as Al-Nassr prepares for a match against Al-Ettifaq, striving for an 11th consecutive league victory. The team will begin 2026 facing Al-Ahli, led by English striker Ivan Toney. Since joining Al-Nassr in 2023, Ronaldo has yet to win a league title, with his only trophy being the Arab Club Champions Cup.
