Ronaldo s Discontent with Al Nassr Amid Benzema s TransferRonaldo s Discontent with Al Nassr Amid Benzema s Transfer

Cristiano Ronaldo’s concerns regarding Al-Nassr have intensified following the recent transfer of his former Real Madrid teammate, Karim Benzema, to Al-Hilal. The move has reportedly frustrated Ronaldo, leading him to temporarily withdraw from selection consideration, which influenced head coach Jorge Jesus to explore alternative options. Despite his absence, Al-Nassr managed to secure a 1-0 victory, aided by former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, though the club would prefer to have their star player available.

Recent reports from Sky Sports News indicate that Ronaldo is unhappy with the operational dynamics of Al-Nassr, specifically feeling that the club does not receive the same level of financial backing as other teams owned by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, including Al-Hilal, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad. While Ronaldo’s frustrations are evident, it’s noteworthy that Benzema’s transfer was financed by private Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, raising questions about the potential for Al-Nassr to attract similar investments.

Despite the ongoing concerns, Saudi officials have stated that Ronaldo has their full support and that he plays an active role in club operations, including involvement in player transfers and investment strategies. This level of engagement makes his discontent somewhat surprising. The Saudi Pro League emphasizes that their competition remains a fair one, citing Al-Nassr’s substantial investment of approximately £100 million ($136 million) in transfers this season, with Ronaldo working alongside talents like Joao Felix and Kingsley Coman.

As Ronaldo approaches his 41st birthday on February 5, he appears to have resumed training, with expectations that he will end his temporary withdrawal. This could enable Al-Nassr to reclaim their position at the top of the league table soon. Ronaldo is under a lucrative contract that reportedly earns him £500,000 per day, obligating him to make himself available for selection unless injured.

Former Premier League star Danny Murphy commented on Ronaldo’s situation, suggesting that he could contribute some of his earnings to assist the club in acquiring additional players, branding the idea as self-indulgent. Al-Nassr management has expressed surprise at their captain’s recent actions but considers the matter resolved. However, questions remain regarding Ronaldo’s long-term future.

With approximately 18 months left on his contract, which runs until the summer of 2027, there exists a £43 million ($59 million) release clause that could be activated in the next transfer window. Speculation has arisen about Ronaldo potentially returning to Europe, with a move back to his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon being discussed. Additionally, there’s burgeoning interest in the possibility of him partnering with his longtime rival, Lionel Messi, in the United States, particularly at MLS Cup winners Inter Miami, where former Manchester United star David Beckham is a co-owner.

For the time being, Ronaldo’s focus remains on competing against Al-Ittihad and striving for major titles, as tangible success has been elusive during his tenure in the Middle East.
