MANCHESTER, England — Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Benjamin Sesko has experienced challenges since his summer transfer to Manchester United, especially following criticism from former defender Gary Neville.

Since his £73.7 million ($97 million) move from RB Leipzig, Sesko has managed to score only two goals in 11 appearances. Following a frustrating performance in the recent 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, where the 22-year-old had just 21 touches throughout the match, Neville remarked that he “wants to see more” from the Slovenian forward, whom he described as “awkward.”

In response to these comments, Amorim conceded that Sesko has been finding it tough at United. However, as the team prepares for a trip to Tottenham this Saturday, he expressed confidence in the young striker’s ability to thrive in the Premier League.

“Of course, nobody likes to hear criticism, but it’s a fact that he has struggled a bit,” said Amorim. “Let’s embrace that. It’s not personal; it’s merely an opinion that will likely change in a few weeks. What is considered true today could be seen as false in just a short time. So, while it’s hard to hear, we are here to support him.”

Amorim emphasized the club’s commitment to helping Sesko, noting his strong work ethic and the desire for him to succeed. “We are going to protect Ben because he is dedicated, and we believe he will succeed,” he added.

Previously regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers during his tenure at RB Leipzig, where he netted 39 goals in 87 matches over two seasons, Sesko attracted interest from other clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle before finalizing his move to Old Trafford.

Amorim pointed out that Sesko has chosen to play at one of the most demanding clubs, where the spotlight is intense. He urged the young player to recognize that adapting to a new team and country will take time.

“I’m relaxed about this situation; he is not,” Amorim explained. “I understand the nature of football, and it’s normal to encounter struggles. He is still gaining experience here, and while there is significant pressure on him due to expectations of being the next big star, he is playing for one of the toughest clubs in the world.

“If he doesn’t perform consistently, he will face criticism from club legends, pundits, and the media, and sometimes those critiques are valid. It is crucial for him to grasp that this is a normal part of the process while maintaining his confidence. He will be our striker for the long term, and while he will face challenges, these bumps along the way are a standard aspect of football.”
