MANCHESTER, England — Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Benjamin Sesko has encountered challenges since his summer transfer to Manchester United. This admission comes in light of criticism aimed at the striker by former defender Gary Neville.

Since his £73.7 million ($97 million) move from RB Leipzig, Sesko has managed to score only two goals in 11 appearances. After a disappointing performance in the recent 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, where the 22-year-old recorded just 21 touches in the entire match, Neville expressed a desire to see more from the Slovenian, labeling him as “awkward.”

Responding to these comments, Amorim conceded that Sesko has indeed struggled to find his footing at United. However, with an upcoming match against Tottenham on Saturday, he expressed confidence that the young striker will succeed in the Premier League.

“Of course, nobody likes to hear this, but he has struggled a little, and that is a fact,” Amorim stated. “So let’s embrace that. It’s not personal; it’s just a reality. I try to explain this to the players. What might be perceived as true today could change in three weeks. It’s difficult to hear, but we will support him. He is dedicated to his work, and we are committed to helping him succeed.”

Sesko was widely regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe during his tenure at RB Leipzig, tallying 39 goals in 87 matches over two seasons. His impressive form attracted interest from clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle during the transfer window before he ultimately chose to join Manchester United.

Amorim pointed out that Sesko could not have selected a more challenging club to represent, given the immense pressure and scrutiny surrounding United. He emphasized the importance of patience as Sesko adjusts to a new team and a different country.

“I am relaxed about this situation; he is not,” Amorim explained. “I understand the realities of football, and it is normal for him to face struggles. He lacks experience here, and the initial expectations can be overwhelming. When you are branded as the next big thing and then join a club like this, the pressure is immense. If you do not perform consistently, you will be critiqued by club legends, pundits, and the media, and sometimes their feedback is valid.

“It is essential for a young player to grasp that this is a normal part of the process and to maintain confidence despite the challenges. He is our long-term striker, and while he will face struggles along the way, such bumps are a typical part of a football career.”
