Ryan Mason Dismissed as West Bromwich Albion Head CoachRyan Mason Dismissed as West Bromwich Albion Head Coach

West Bromwich Albion has announced the dismissal of head coach Ryan Mason following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday. This loss marked the team’s 10th consecutive defeat in away matches, leaving the Baggies positioned 18th in the Championship table, a significant 10 points behind the playoff spots.

Alongside Mason, assistant coach Nigel Gibbs and head of performance Sam Pooley have also parted ways with the club. In the interim, first-team coach James Morrison will assume managerial responsibilities.

The Baggies are scheduled to face Swansea City in the FA Cup on Sunday, with their next league match not occurring until January 16, when Middlesbrough visits The Hawthorns.

In a brief statement regarding Mason’s departure, the club indicated that the search for a new head coach and supporting staff is currently underway.

Mason, who previously served on the coaching staff at Tottenham Hotspur, took the reins at West Brom on a three-year contract but has struggled to elevate the team into promotion contention. Despite an encouraging start to the season with three victories in the first four league matches, the team’s performance has since declined significantly, yielding only six wins in the subsequent 22 matches.

Following the Leicester game, where a late goal sealed the defeat for West Brom, Mason expressed to BBC WM, “We are on a terrible run in terms of away games, but looking at our last seven or eight matches, we have had more shots on goal than our opponents, more shots on target, and have created more chances, while conceding very few.

I am proud of the team and the performance, and we deserve so much more.”
