YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon — Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has been suspended for four matches due to alleged misconduct during his team’s recent defeat to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations.

On Wednesday, FECAFOOT acknowledged the disciplinary committee’s ruling from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which includes a $20,000 fine for Eto’o. However, the federation expressed that it “lacks any explicit justification” for the decision.

FECAFOOT also raised concerns regarding the expedited procedures that led to this ruling, citing serious doubts about the fundamental principles of a fair trial.

CAF initiated an investigation into incidents that occurred during the quarterfinal matches involving Cameroon against Morocco, as well as Algeria versus Nigeria. Although CAF did not specify particular incidents related to the Cameroon-Morocco match, Eto’o’s visible anger during the game, directed towards Moroccan counterpart Fouzi Lekjaa and observed by CAF president Patrice Motsepe, drew significant attention.

In response to these developments, FECAFOOT reaffirmed its strong support for Eto’o and reiterated its dedication to the principles of credible disciplinary justice.
