Santiago Colombatto showcased his talent today in defense of both the team and himself during Oviedo’s most challenging moment of the season, as they find themselves at the bottom of the Primera División standings. “In times like these, when no one believes in us, we must evoke our pride. It has taken me a lot to reach Primera, and I will not allow negative talk about our team. We need to rise up and approach the holiday season in the best possible shape,” asserted the blue midfielder.

There is growing frustration within the locker room regarding the narrative that the squad lacks the quality to compete at the highest level. Colombatto stated, “I do not believe that those of us who were in Segunda are not suited for Primera. That touches my pride. I am here in Primera, and I need results to prove it. I work hard for that.”

The current situation is undeniably uncomfortable for all parties involved: “It’s not easy for anyone—neither the club, nor the players, nor the fans.” Colombatto reflects on his journey, recalling when he arrived two years ago under similar circumstances, albeit in a lower division. “We must remember where we came from; we overcame challenges then, and now we find ourselves in Primera, just two points away from climbing out of the relegation zone.”

Colombatto stands by the new coach’s efforts and acknowledges progress, despite the lack of favorable results so far. “In Girona and against Osasuna, we deserved to win. Our first half in Bilbao was not bad. We are making strides forward, but the results are still missing. If we continue to improve, the outcomes will follow.”

Despite the noise surrounding the coach, the locker room remains united and committed to Carrión. “We have supported the coach since his arrival; we believe in him. Often, the media stirs up stories that don’t help, but ultimately, we as players are responsible. We are the ones on the field and need to deliver an extra effort.”

While focusing too far ahead may not be ideal, Colombatto recognizes the crucial period leading up to the Christmas break: “This pause will benefit us. Following it, we have five key matches before the holidays, and we must secure the results that we are capable of achieving.”
