Santos Coach Sets High Expectations for Neymar and Gabigol

Santos’ coach, Juan Pablo Vojvoda, has set ambitious expectations for the attacking duo of Neymar and Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa this season.

Gabigol marked his return to Santos in impressive fashion by scoring during his first match back, helping secure a 2-1 victory over Novorizontino in the Campeonato Paulista on Saturday.

Neymar, who recently extended his contract with Santos until December, has a deep understanding of the club, as does Gabigol. Vojvoda noted, “Neymar and Gabigol know the club very well and they know each other too. However, they will want what’s best for Santos. Will they share responsibility? No. I want the maximum from Neymar and Gabigol—nothing less than their full individual contributions for the benefit of Santos.”

The coach emphasized, “I will demand this because they are capable of achieving it. The coaching staff must find strategies to ensure they perform at their highest level.”

Following Saturday’s match, Neymar was seen congratulating Gabigol in the locker room. After undergoing minor knee surgery on December 22 to address a meniscus issue, Neymar has started his recovery process. Vojvoda provided an update on Neymar’s condition, stating, “Neymar is doing well, and I’m pleased to see that he’s happy.”

There were doubts about Neymar’s performance last year; however, he displayed commitment during challenging moments, even when physically hindered. Vojvoda acknowledged, “I know what all of Brazil expects from Neymar, but I expect the same for Santos. He is recovering at a commendable pace.”

Neymar is anticipated to return to action just before the commencement of Brazil’s Serie A later this month.
