Schalke has officially announced the permanent signing of Edin Dzeko from Fiorentina.

The Bosnian forward joins the 2.Bundesliga club on a short-term deal set to run until the end of the current season. This performance-based contract will hinge on his goal contributions and, importantly, on Schalke’s potential promotion.

Notably, there is no option to extend the contract beyond this summer.

Upon his arrival, Schalke’s new number 10 expressed his enthusiasm:
“Since the initial interest, I have been deeply engaged with Schalke, watching several of their matches. The discussions with the management, Coach Miron Muslic, and Nikola Katic were very positive.”

He added, “It’s impressive to see how the team has evolved this season after some challenging years. I am determined to give my all for our success in the second half of the season, and I look forward to my first home game at the sold-out VELTINS Arena.”

Reports indicate that Dzeko approached Schalke regarding a potential transfer three weeks ago. Despite attracting interest from Paris FC, he chose to join Gelsenkirchen, drawn by the club’s stature and the persuasive encouragement from fellow Bosnians Miron Muslic and Nikola Katic, the latter being Dzeko’s international teammate.

Currently, Schalke sits at the top of the 2.Bundesliga standings, having established strong defensive discipline that has limited them to just 10 goals conceded this season. However, their attacking performance has been less impressive, with only 22 goals scored, primarily reliant on captain Kenan Karaman and striker Moussa Syla.

The club hopes that Dzeko’s addition will invigorate their attack as they strive for a return to the Bundesliga.
