Six months ago, Antoine Semenyo appeared settled at Bournemouth, having recently signed a new five-year contract in July. Following the signing, Semenyo expressed his contentment, stating, “I’ve grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I’m really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season. From the fans to the staff and my teammates, I can’t speak highly enough of the people around the club. It’s a great place to be, and I’m excited to get back to Bournemouth and continue the hard work with the new season just around the corner.”

Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, emphasized Semenyo’s importance to the club, calling him “crucial” to their progress and a “key member” of their ongoing project. Pinto remarked, “We have a great relationship with Antoine, and we’re looking forward to continuing that as we hope to build on a record-breaking season. His commitment to the club matches our ambition, and I’m excited to see what can be achieved as we prepare for the new campaign.”

However, circumstances have shifted as Semenyo has showcased remarkable form since the beginning of the season, positioning himself as one of the league’s top performers midway through the campaign. His stellar performances have attracted interest from several prominent English clubs, with Manchester City appearing to have emerged as the frontrunner for his transfer.

According to talkSPORT, Bournemouth and Manchester City have engaged in productive discussions regarding the payment structure for Semenyo’s £65 million ($87.5 million) transfer fee, and the Cherries are now poised to sell their star player within the next 48 hours.

Despite the impending transfer, Semenyo is expected to accompany the Bournemouth squad to Stamford Bridge for their upcoming match against Chelsea. This match could potentially serve as his farewell appearance for the Cherries. Semenyo has verbally agreed to the transfer, with formal proceedings set to commence once the transfer window officially opens on January 1.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola had expressed hope that Semenyo would remain at the club for the duration of the season. Last week, he stated, “No, the more games Antoine can play for us, the better. If he can play years for us, it’s much better! If it cannot be years, it can be months. If he can only play weeks, it is weeks, but the more time he plays with us, the better for us. Antoine’s situation is quite clear. He is a massive player for us, and even in games where he hasn’t played well, he remains a threat to score and assist. Obviously, I don’t want to lose him. This is quite clear, but there are some situations that are not under my control. He will be available to play again in three days against Chelsea, and I hope he plays a lot more with us.”

With Semenyo’s transfer nearly finalized, Bournemouth has already begun exploring alternative options and is reportedly keen on acquiring the underutilized Tottenham star Brennan Johnson, as per The Guardian. Johnson, primarily a winger, has the versatility to play in multiple attacking positions, which has piqued Iraola’s interest.
