Sergio Ramos Pursues Ownership Stake in Sevilla FC

omidbasir- Sergio Ramos is currently a free agent following his departure from the Mexican club Monterrey. He is aspiring to return to Europe and aims to secure a position in Spain’s squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, having previously earned 180 caps for his national team.

While such a goal may seem ambitious, Ramos has demonstrated remarkable longevity in his career, akin to football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who continue to excel as they approach their 40s. Off the pitch, however, Ramos has been busy exploring avenues beyond playing.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Ramos is considering a move into club ownership. He is reportedly collaborating with a group of investors who believe they can negotiate a deal with Sevilla FC.

Significant progress has been made towards realizing this ambition. According to Cadena SER, Ramos and his consortium have reached a preliminary agreement with the club’s core group of reference shareholders. An exclusivity period has commenced, allowing both parties to review Sevilla’s financial accounts before finalizing a definitive agreement.

Ramos has partnered with Argentine entrepreneur Martín Ink, the CEO of Five Eleven Capital, an investment group focused on soccer in the United States. They are already familiar with the workings of Sevilla, as the club’s sporting director, Antonio Cordon, has previously collaborated with their group.

Reports from Cadena SER indicate that Ramos has signed a letter of intent with several principal shareholders of Sevilla, with the due diligence process being the next formal step toward acquisition.

Ramos has always expressed his deep affection for Sevilla, having risen through their academy. After a successful 16-year tenure at Real Madrid, where he won five La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies, he returned to Sevilla in 2023 following two seasons alongside Messi at Paris Saint-Germain.

That stint at PSG was brief, lasting just 12 months. In an emotional farewell message to supporters, he stated, “Wherever I am, Sevilla FC will have the staunch support of a Sevillista of birth and heart. Thank you very much to all.”

Now, Ramos is poised to tread a familiar path back to Andalusia. The proposal from him and his partners reportedly exceeds €400 million (£347 million/$474 million). However, he faces competition, as nine other parties have also expressed interest in acquiring Sevilla.

Ramos is set to travel to Seville to advance the acquisition process while simultaneously keeping his playing options open.

Should this deal come to fruition, Ramos will join the ranks of notable figures like Manchester United legend David Beckham, who is currently working alongside Messi at MLS Cup champions Inter Miami, in an exclusive group of players who have acquired stakes in professional clubs.

Other notable examples include former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who became an owner of Phoenix Rising after joining as a player in 2017, and Cesc Fabregas, who is a minority shareholder in Como, the team he currently manages. Cristiano Ronaldo owns a 15% stake in Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, while Kylian Mbappé, through his investment firm Interconnected Ventures, is the majority owner of Ligue 2 club Caen. Additionally, Barcelona great Gerard Piqué is involved with FC Andorra, Jamie Vardy with Rochester New York FC, and N’Golo Kanté with Belgian side Royal Excelsior Virton.
