Benjamin Sesko is optimistic about the future of Manchester United, asserting that “great things are coming” despite the team’s challenging start to the 2026 season without a manager.

The club is currently in the process of selecting a successor for Ruben Amorim, whose 14-month tenure ended following Sunday’s 1-1 draw against rival Leeds. This result compounded a disappointing end to the previous year, where United also drew 1-1 at home against last-placed Wolves and managed a 2-2 draw away at Burnley in Darren Fletcher’s debut as interim coach.

Despite these setbacks, United remains in seventh place in the standings, close to qualifying for the Champions League. Sesko, who scored an impressive brace at Turf Moor, remains confident that the team can finish the season on a high note.

When asked about the team’s resilience and unity, Sesko replied, “Definitely. I think in general we’re a really great group. We’re doing everything to try to prove ourselves every single time. We just have to keep going, keep pushing, because I think we’re great and, yeah, I believe that great things are coming.”

Fletcher will continue as caretaker manager for the upcoming FA Cup match against Brighton, as discussions are ongoing with potential candidates Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick for the managerial role for the remainder of the season. Sources indicate that Ruud van Nistelrooy, who briefly managed United after Erik ten Hag and before Amorim, is also being considered for the interim position.

Whoever assumes the managerial role will be pleased to have a confident forward like Sesko at their disposal. Although the 22-year-old has experienced challenges since his high-profile transfer from RB Leipzig, he showcased his talent with two impressive goals at Turf Moor.

“It feels great because we created great chances, especially with those two goals,” Sesko noted, reflecting on his performance. “Great movements, great ball. With this kind of situation, we are showing what team we are, what we are capable of and, yeah, it’s great for the future, obviously.”

However, Sesko acknowledges the need for the team to convert their opportunities into victories. “It feels obviously disappointing because I think we were fighting, we were giving our best, we were creating a lot of chances,” he shared with MUTV. “Basically, the ball was two times in the net, like over the line, but the opponent just took it out. We’re creating good chances. Unfortunately, we received two goals. We still got a draw, which is important, but now it’s just up to us to try to focus on the details and try to win the next game.”
