Sevilla FC Faces Challenging Times at HomeSevilla FC Faces Challenging Times at Home

Sevilla FC is currently enduring one of its most challenging periods in the 21st century, particularly at their home ground, Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. The team has had a dismal record throughout 2025, managing to secure just four official victories at home, three of which occurred this season against Barcelona, Osasuna, and Oviedo. In contrast, the final four months of 2024 saw them achieve five wins, totaling nine victories for that year. As it stands, their home performance in the current campaign reflects a disappointing return of 10 out of a possible 27 points, marking the lowest percentage of points earned at home since the 1999-2000 season.

The toxic mix of ongoing sports and institutional crises has led to growing disenchantment among the passionate Sevilla fanbase. The beginning of 2026 offered a golden opportunity to reset, with a match against Levante, yet reality proved harsh as the team suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat to the league’s bottom team.

In their first match of the year at Sánchez-Pizjuán, attendance plummeted to 25,303 spectators, with only 331 coming from the visiting team, representing the lowest turnout of the season at just 64.6% of member capacity. Factors such as the opponent, the date, and adverse weather conditions contributed to this decline, along with fan protests that further dampened the atmosphere. The current Sevilla squad struggles to ignite the enthusiasm of its followers, who are growing weary of leaving matches disheartened and frustrated every other weekend. This prevailing apathy and disillusionment threaten to overshadow the Nervión neighborhood, as the team continues to squander valuable points.

To improve their situation, Sevilla must establish a stronghold at Sánchez-Pizjuán, as every point is crucial for their quest for survival in the league. Following their dismal performance against Levante, January presents them with two more home fixtures. The first is set for Monday, January 12, against a Celta side that is currently in good form, having secured four wins and one draw in their last five league matches, despite facing elimination in the cup and a loss in Europe. The match conditions are expected to be challenging once again, with it falling on a workday and predicted cold weather, scheduled for 21:00.

Sevilla will kick off the second half of the season with an away match against Elche on Monday, January 19, also at 21:00. Just five days later, they will host Athletic Club at 18:30. Although Athletic is not at its peak, it has not lost at Sánchez-Pizjuán since May 22, 2022. To avoid further complicating their situation, Sevilla needs to secure at least one victory from these three upcoming matches, relying heavily on the support and energy of their fans.
