The Sevilla FC squad is on a Christmas break until the afternoon of Sunday, December 28. Under the guidance of Matías Almeyda, the players will return to training on the pitch at the sports city, but sessions will be closed to the public. Notably, Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke are currently competing in the Africa Cup of Nations with the Nigerian national team.

The absence of Adams, the team’s number ‘9’, for the resumption of the league has highlighted the pressing need for a new striker, especially given Isaac Romero’s recent lack of effectiveness in front of goal.

However, securing a new signing will not be straightforward. Sevilla’s current challenges in the transfer market are well-documented. With all squad spots filled and the return of Fede Gattoni, it is crucial for the club to offload players and facilitate at least one sale to create some financial flexibility.

The search for players has already begun. Reports from France suggest that Antonio Cordón has identified Elye Wahi, a French forward of Ivorian descent, as a potential target to bolster the team’s attack for the second half of the season. According to L’Equipe, Sevilla has initiated discussions with Eintracht Frankfurt regarding the loan of the forward, who will turn 23 on January 2.

Wahi recently faced Sevilla in the Champions League while playing for Lens during the group stage of the 2023-24 season, under the management of Diego Alonso. Lens had previously paid €30 million for his transfer, and he signed with Olympique de Marseille for part of last season before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt for €26 million, where he is currently contracted.
