Sevilla FC Strengthens Commitment to Youth Development with Nico Guillén’s Renewal

Sevilla FC is making significant strides in its commitment to youth development. Following the departure of youth player Alexis Ciria to Real Madrid, the club has swiftly moved to secure the future of Nico Guillén, whom they regard as a cornerstone of their youth academy. The midfielder from Huelva, who has also attracted interest from the Spanish giants, is set to renew his contract in the coming days until 2029. This new agreement will include a substantial salary increase and a release clause set at 20 million euros, as reported by ABC and Zona Mixta.

Nico Guillén stands out as one of the brightest young talents nurtured at the club’s training facility on Carretera de Utrera, where he arrived at a young age in 2013. Throughout his time there, he has not only showcased exceptional footballing skills but has also demonstrated remarkable maturity. These qualities have earned him a place in the Spanish national teams across the under-16, under-17, and under-18 categories. Currently, he is a regular fixture in Sevilla Atlético and has a contract extending until 2027. However, the club is keen to preemptively solidify his position, reinforcing his contract to ensure he becomes a strategic player for the future.

First-team coach Matías Almeyda has already integrated Nico Guillén into the pre-season setup, where he made his debut with a goal against Birmingham. Known for his ability to progress with the ball and his proficient striking, the left-footed midfielder has appeared in 15 matches for Sevilla Atlético this season, netting two goals. He has also participated in several training sessions with the senior team. Recently, The Guardian included him in its list of the 60 best young football talents worldwide, even drawing comparisons to renowned player Fernando Redondo.

In these economically challenging times, the promotion of homegrown talent remains a hallmark of Sevilla FC, with players such as José Ángel Carmona, Juanlu Sánchez, Kike Salas, and Isaac Romero establishing themselves in the first team.
