Sevilla Secures First Winter Signing: Neal Maupay

The club has reached an agreement with Olympique de Marseille, his current team, for a loan deal that includes a purchase option close to €6 million, as reported by journalist Santi Aouna on Footmercato and confirmed by Matteo Moretto.

Negotiations between Sevilla and Marseille had been ongoing for several days concerning Maupay. However, Sevilla needed to alleviate wage constraints, which could be achieved through the loan of Alfon to Villarreal and the potential long-term absence of Marcao. Initially, Marseille sought a permanent transfer, but they eventually conceded to a loan arrangement. Consequently, the deal for the attacker was only finalized in the last few hours.

With Maupay’s arrival, Sevilla enhances its forward line with an experienced player in European football. Having played for clubs including Nice, Saint-Étienne, Brest, Brentford, Brighton, and Everton, Maupay has had limited opportunities at Marseille this season, and he will be looking to regain prominence under the guidance of coach Matías Almeyda.
