Sevilla vs. Girona Match Postponed Due to Severe Weather ConditionsSevilla vs. Girona Match Postponed Due to Severe Weather Conditions

In light of the lack of official confirmation, the match between Sevilla and Girona, part of LaLiga EA Sports’ 23rd round, scheduled for this Saturday at 18:30 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, has been suspended due to severe weather conditions affecting the capital of Seville. This decision, initially requested by the club in consideration of fan safety and supported by local authorities, was ultimately confirmed following the activation of an orange alert for rain, storms, and strong winds.

Initially, LaLiga did not heed Sevilla’s suggestion to postpone the match due to the absence of a red alert, as stipulated by protocol, and referred the matter to the Subdelegation of the Government. There are precedents for such suspensions; for example, a match between Atlético and Sevilla was postponed by the Subdelegation of the Government in Madrid on September 3, 2023. Pending official confirmation, the match is now set to take place tomorrow at 16:15.

The Subdelegation of the Government in Seville requested the Junta and LaLiga to suspend the Sevilla-Girona match due to the impacts of the storm named Marta, which has recently brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to Andalusia. The Aemet has indeed activated the orange alert in the province.
