omidbasir- Former Union Berlin striker Sheraldo Becker and former Union Berlin head coach Urs Fischer have expressed their delight at reuniting at FSV Mainz 05.

Becker’s return to the Bundesliga was swift, as Mainz moved quickly to acquire him on transfer deadline day after his two-year stint in Spain. The Suriname international made it clear he wanted to remain in Germany beyond his initial six-month loan.

“It’s quite extraordinary to be able to sign a player of his caliber at such short notice,” Fischer remarked during his pre-match press conference last Friday. “We must credit our transfer committee for executing this deal successfully.

“The transfer was finalized just ten minutes before the deadline,” Fischer revealed. “We had other options available, but I recognized Sheraldo’s potential advantage due to our previous working relationship. It’s also crucial that the player is familiar with the Bundesliga.”

Immediately following the transfer, Becker was called upon in last weekend’s Bundesliga match against relegation rivals Augsburg, where he played 27 minutes off the bench, actively contributing to the team’s vital 2-0 home victory.

“I hope he can move past the challenges he faced,” Fischer commented on Becker’s less-than-stellar two years in Spain with Real Sociedad and CA Osasuna. “He possesses incredible speed, seeks the direct path to goal, and is capable of setting up scoring opportunities. I have high hopes for him.”

Becker himself expressed satisfaction with his return, stating in an interview with the Monday print edition of Kicker, “The Bundesliga suits me better. In Spain, the game lacks the intensity found in the Bundesliga; it’s more relaxed. My intention is to stay in Mainz for a longer period.”
