Sir Alex Ferguson has extended his congratulations to Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, as he approaches his landmark 1,000th match in management.

Guardiola is set to reach this milestone when City hosts Liverpool on Sunday. Under his leadership, Manchester City has secured six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

On behalf of the League Managers Association, Ferguson, who managed over 2,000 matches during his illustrious career with Manchester United, expressed his admiration: “Pep! I am absolutely delighted to welcome you to join the prestigious LMA Hall of Fame 1,000 Club.

“Your deep love and passion for the game has always been so evident, and you should take great pride in the indelible impact you continue to have on the global football scene. Reaching 1,000 matches and maintaining such longevity in this sport is a remarkable achievement that cannot be underestimated. Delivering league titles, Champions League victories, and domestic cups across three of Europe’s most competitive leagues is truly outstanding.”

Guardiola began his managerial journey with Barcelona B before advancing to the first team at Barcelona, then enjoying a stint at Bayern Munich, and ultimately joining Manchester City in 2016. To date, he has won 715 of his 999 matches.

“I am so proud to be reaching 1,000 games as a manager, which has always been a special ambition for me,” Guardiola remarked.

Richard Bevan, the chief executive of the LMA, added: “Pep has dedicated his entire career to achieving excellence, driven by an unmatched will to win and a world-renowned style. His achievements and success in Spain, Germany, and England are unprecedented, and his influence will continue to shape the game for future generations.”
