Stije Resink Reflects on Missed Transfer OpportunitiesStije Resink Reflects on Missed Transfer Opportunities

Stije Resink had hoped to depart from FC Groningen during the recent transfer window. Benfica from Portugal expressed serious interest, and Ajax also had the midfielder on their radar. However, Groningen was adamantly opposed to facilitating any winter transfer.

Resink spoke about his missed opportunity with Benfica in an interview with RTV Noord. “I am still here (on the training field), which I believe speaks volumes. I truly enjoy my time here. It has been a tumultuous period. I received various offers, and as a player, you tend to reflect a lot on your own interests. Ultimately, it is clear that there was an opportunity for the club to sell me, but they chose not to pursue it.”

Despite his desire to move to Portugal, Resink acknowledged the club’s firm stance. “As a player, you hope for cooperation with the club, and both parties need to be aligned. In this case, the club was quite clear in their decision. You can try to negotiate, but ultimately, you must accept their choice. For me, this marks a new chapter, and I am ready to give my all on the field.”
