Two months ago, on September 4, 2025, Joseph Oosting was dismissed from his position as head coach of FC Twente, making him the first managerial casualty of the season. He was soon joined by Bas Sibum of Heracles and John Heitinga of Ajax in this regard. Heitinga’s recent departure from Ajax may now present a new opportunity for Oosting.

Frits Barend is advocating for Ajax to consider Oosting for the role. In a statement made to Nieus van de Dag, Barend remarked, “The one person relieved of their duties is John Heitinga. It was an enormous mistake by Ajax’s management to disrupt Heitinga’s successful tenure as an assistant under Arne Slot at Liverpool. He should have remained with Slot for another year or two before taking on a head coaching role at PEC Zwolle, allowing him to gradually develop his skills. It was predictable that this situation would not end well.”
