Thomas Frank Addresses Cristian Romero’s Recent Social Media Outburst

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, refrained from confirming whether his fervent Tottenham Hotspur captain, Cristian Romero, faced any disciplinary action following a recent social media outburst. However, Frank acknowledged that he would have approached the situation differently.

Romero made headlines on Monday after he took to Instagram just an hour before the transfer window closed. He expressed his discontent over playing through illness during Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City, labeling it “disgraceful” that the squad was left with only 11 fit players.

His comments resonated with several frustrated Spurs supporters, particularly in light of the club’s inactivity in the transfer market since the signing of Conor Gallagher on January 14, especially as nine players have succumbed to injuries since the beginning of 2026.

Ahead of Saturday’s upcoming match against Manchester United, Frank offered a thoughtful perspective: “If you want to understand what he meant, you should ask him directly. That is the appropriate way to approach that question.

“Cuti [Romero] is an extremely passionate individual and player. He aims to give everything on the pitch, driven by ambition and a desire to win each match.

“At times, such passion can lead to outbursts, as we’ve seen in this instance. It is a matter we have addressed internally.”

When queried about whether Romero had been fined or disciplined, particularly following his previous social media commentary after a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on January 7, Frank tactfully avoided the question.

He stated, “There are various ways to handle situations. Cuti has performed admirably for us this season and in previous ones.

“Personally, I would not have taken that approach. That is my stance.

“The beauty of written communication is that it is open to interpretation, and no one truly understands the intent behind it except for Cuti or those who have spoken with him.

“What is clear is that Cuti possesses a deep passion; he yearns to win and strives to collaborate with his teammates to achieve remarkable accomplishments. However, I encourage you to speak with him directly the next time you have the opportunity.”
