Toni Freixa Discusses Lamine Yamal’s Development and Club Management

Toni Freixa, a former executive of FC Barcelona, recently shared his thoughts on the young talent Lamine Yamal and the club’s management of the player during his appearance on the program ‘Solo para culés’ from El Chiringuito de Jugones.

Freixa expressed that if Lamine were his son, he would advise him not to believe the hype surrounding his abilities. “I would tell him that he is not as good as people say. He must continue to work hard and ignore any external narratives. His focus should solely be on football,” he stated.

He further emphasized the need for Lamine’s environment to protect him from distractions and to reduce external pressure, allowing him to develop without the burden of needing to justify the expectations placed upon him as a rising star.

In a hypothetical scenario where Lamine might face challenges—be they personal, athletic, or internal—Freixa mentioned that support is essential. “If Lamine encounters any issues, we need to assist him in managing them. Hypothetically, if it reaches a point where the problem becomes unmanageable, it’s not the end of the world; the club will continue to thrive,” he commented.

Freixa concluded by stating, “I do not dismiss any possibilities when considering my club. Everyone associated with the club is temporary, but what truly matters is the future of FC Barcelona.”
