Tottenham Hotspur Pursues Andy Robertson in Potential Transfer from LiverpoolTottenham Hotspur Pursues Andy Robertson in Potential Transfer from Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur has begun negotiations with Liverpool concerning a potential transfer for defender Andy Robertson, according to sources reported by ESPN.

The left-back, who joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season. Earlier this month, Robertson expressed uncertainty about his long-term future, prompting Tottenham to make an approach for the 31-year-old player, although no agreement has yet been finalized.

Robertson’s position at Liverpool has diminished this season following the £40 million ($54.1 million) acquisition of Milos Kerkez during the summer transfer window. Sources informed ESPN that any potential transfer this month would need to be advantageous for both the player and the club.

Tottenham’s interest in Robertson aligns with their effort to inject more experience and leadership into a team that currently occupies 14th place in the Premier League standings under manager Thomas Frank.

“I’m a player who wants to play,” Robertson stated earlier this month. “With just five months left on my contract, I need to explore options for either staying or leaving. I need to have discussions with my family regarding our future decisions. After a stressful summer, I’m focusing on enjoying my time at Liverpool.

“I aimed to qualify for the World Cup, and thankfully, we achieved that. Now, I must consider what my family and I want moving forward.”

In addition, insights from various sources indicate that incoming transfers for Liverpool during the January window are unlikely, highlighting the team’s current focus on their existing roster.

Frank has faced challenges at Spurs due to an extensive injury list affecting key players, including Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, further compounded by Ben Davies’s broken ankle.

Destiny Udogie has been the primary left-back since his arrival in 2023; however, repeated muscular injuries have frequently sidelined him, leading to Djed Spence often stepping in.

If Robertson’s transfer to Spurs is completed, he would become the second left-back added to the squad during the January transfer window, following the signing of Souza from Santos in a €15 million deal earlier this week.

Throughout his tenure at Liverpool, Robertson has made 363 appearances and secured several prestigious accolades, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2019.
