Conor Gallagher has made a £33 million transfer from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid in 2024.

Tottenham Hotspur is poised to finalize a £35 million deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, having overtaken Aston Villa in the pursuit of the England international’s signature.

Initially, Aston Villa seemed to be the frontrunner for Gallagher’s transfer, but Spurs have now made significant progress by agreeing to meet Atletico’s valuation.

Villa’s strategy involved signing the former Chelsea player on an initial loan basis, with an option to secure a permanent transfer.

Although Gallagher has yet to finalize personal terms with Tottenham, it is believed that this step is merely a formality.

The midfielder is eager to complete the transfer before Atletico’s upcoming Copa del Rey match against Deportivo on Tuesday night.

Gallagher hopes that a return to the Premier League will enhance his chances of rejoining Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming summer World Cup.

To date, he has made only one appearance under Tuchel, which lasted 59 minutes during a 3-1 friendly defeat against Senegal.

In addition, Spurs are actively seeking to strengthen their midfield options, particularly following Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury, which will sideline him for a minimum of three months due to the need for hamstring surgery sustained during last week’s Premier League loss to Bournemouth.
