Tragic Loss Getafe s Davinchi Mourns His Father After Train CollisionTragic Loss Getafe s Davinchi Mourns His Father After Train Collision

Getafe’s left-back, David Cordon Mancha, affectionately referred to as Davinchi, is in mourning following the tragic loss of his father, David Cordon Cano, due to a devastating train collision in Spain on Sunday. Cordon Cano was traveling back home on the Alvia service to Huelva when the train was struck by a derailed Iryo high-speed train near Adamuz in the province of Cordoba.

At the age of 50, Cordon Cano had made the trip to Madrid earlier that day to support his son’s team, Getafe, during their La Liga match against Valencia. In a heartbreaking twist, Davinchi was unable to play due to a knee injury; however, his father attended the match to demonstrate his unwavering support for his son, who had just joined the club this summer.

The tragic collision has resulted in the loss of 42 lives and has cast a pall over the Spanish football community. Davinchi, only 18 years old and a recent transfer from Recreativo Huelva, now faces the enormous challenge of navigating the early stages of his professional career without the guidance of his most devoted supporter.

Breaking his silence on social media, Davinchi posted a heartfelt tribute featuring touching photographs of himself and his father, along with an emotional letter on Instagram. In his message, he vowed to transform his grief into strength, recalling the resilience his father instilled in him from a young age.

“You will fill me with strength in times of difficulty, and I will always remember what you told us: to remain positive and keep moving forward,” Davinchi expressed. “Everything I do in this life will always be for the brightest star I have in the sky.”

He further committed to honoring his father’s memory through his actions, both on the pitch and in life. “As someone once said, ‘When the going gets tough, only the tough get going.’ You were always a fighter, and you taught me that from the very beginning. That is the greatest act of love I can show you: to prove that I can endure anything and that I will never give up.”

While he was primarily known recently as the supportive father of a budding La Liga star, David Cordon Cano was an accomplished sportsman himself. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) paid tribute to him, acknowledging his distinguished career as a beach soccer player who represented Spain at the highest levels.

Between 2001 and 2004, Cordon Cano proudly wore the Spain jersey, contributing to two European league titles and a pair of World Championship runner-up finishes. The RFEF’s statement serves as a reminder of the deep sporting legacy within the family, adding to the profound sadness of losing a man who made significant contributions to Spanish sport.

Getafe issued a heartfelt statement confirming the news and offering their full support to Davinchi during this difficult time. The Madrid-based club expressed their sorrow, noting how quickly Cordon Cano became a cherished figure within their extended family despite his short association with the club.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the news we never wanted to share,” the club’s statement read. “We are heartbroken by the passing of David Cordon Cano, father of our player ‘Davinchi,’ in the tragic accident in Adamuz, Córdoba.”

The club emphasized the personal impact Cordon Cano had on staff and officials since Davinchi’s arrival seven months ago. “We met you seven months ago, and you quickly won us over with your kindness, warmth, and generosity. We will miss you dearly! Rest in peace, dear friend,” the tribute concluded. Since his arrival, Davinchi has made seven league appearances, and the club has pledged to support him as he copes with this devastating loss.
