Transfer Talks: Beuker and Sano’s Meeting at Izakaya

Marijn Beuker allegedly met with Kodai Sano at the Izakaya restaurant to discuss a potential transfer from NEC to Ajax, all without the knowledge of the Nijmegen club. Beuker shared his insights during an appearance on FC Afkicken.

“I don’t think there was any photo taken of that meeting,” Beuker stated. However, there were pictures of agent Nathan van Kooperen dining with his client Sano at the Amsterdam restaurant. “I must say, it’s an excellent restaurant, which is why I frequent it often.” When asked about the coincidence of both Beuker and Sano being at the same venue, he affirmed, “Yes, it was indeed a coincidence.”

Ajax has shown interest in Sano. “We are certainly looking to strengthen our squad for the long term. We have approached players such as Maher Carrizo and intended to do the same with JP Chermont. Sano would have been an interesting addition for the future. Since our new technical director has already commenced his duties, we were well-positioned to explore this option. However, we cautiously approached NEC, and they have expressed that they do not wish to sell him. That is their prerogative, and we will continue to pursue other options.”
