Ricardo Pepi is attracting considerable interest from various clubs, but PSV Eindhoven is not inclined to part ways with the promising forward.

Earnie Stewart, the technical director at PSV and a former USMNT midfielder, promptly dismissed rumors linking Pepi to a potential transfer, particularly in light of a reported offer from Fulham. He stated that it would require an “exorbitant offer” to secure Pepi’s services, clarifying that the indicated $35 million does not meet that threshold.

“We received an offer and we rejected it,” Stewart remarked in an interview with VI. “We have no intention of selling Ricardo.” When probed whether a higher bid could change their decision, he responded, “There’s no point in thinking about that at the moment, because there is no such offer.”

As of now, Pepi has netted 10 goals across all competitions this season, including three in the Champions League during crucial matches. His trajectory suggests a significant transfer in the future; however, PSV appears committed to retaining him for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, annual speculation regarding Weston McKennie’s exit from Juventus has intensified, with new developments adding complexity to the situation. According to reports from Sky Sports, McKennie is unlikely to renew his contract upon its expiration this June, leading to widespread speculation about his next destination. Should he leave, he would be available for a free transfer, with Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs reportedly interested, particularly FC Cincinnati, which had previously shown interest. Following his home World Cup, it is anticipated that other MLS teams will also vie for his signature.

However, McKennie’s father, John, quickly dismissed the rumors, describing them as “BS.” This denial came shortly after McKennie’s agent, Cory Gibbs, refuted claims that contract negotiations had stalled due to agent fees.

The current situation remains uncertain as McKennie enters the final six months of his contract, making it a critical juncture for the talented midfielder.

In another development, Damion Downs’ tenure at Southampton has not yielded the expected results, with limited playing time hindering his growth. In response, Downs has secured a six-month loan to Hamburg, where he will compete in the Bundesliga. This move signifies a step up from the Championship, as Hamburg is currently fighting against relegation alongside his former club, FC Köln.

Hamburg’s sporting director, Claus Costa, expressed optimism about Downs’ potential impact, stating, “With Damion, we filled an open spot in the squad early in this transfer window. He knows the Bundesliga and brings an interesting mix of quality and development potential.” Costa highlighted Downs’ attributes, describing him as a vertical center forward with an advantageous combination of size, speed, and depth, which aligns well with the team’s strategic needs.

Downs’ skills, particularly as a proven goalscorer, were showcased during the Gold Cup, where he made a significant contribution against Costa Rica. This new opportunity at Hamburg could be pivotal for his development, especially with the World Cup looming.

Additionally, U.S. youth forward Cole Campbell has also secured a loan move in Germany, transitioning from Borussia Dortmund to Hoffenheim. This initial six-month loan includes an option to buy for up to $11.7 million, a substantial fee given Campbell’s age and experience level.

At just 19 years old, Campbell made a notable impact last season with Dortmund, featuring six times and four appearances in the Bundesliga. However, his playing time dwindled this season to just 18 minutes in the first half, indicating a closure of opportunities at Dortmund and necessitating a move to ensure his development.

Hoffenheim presents an opportunity for Campbell to reclaim his trajectory in professional football, a crucial step as he aims to become a key player in future cycles. Consistent playing time at the Bundesliga level could position him favorably for achieving his potential.
