Transitioning Coaches at Ajax The Search for a SuccessorTransitioning Coaches at Ajax The Search for a Successor

Currently, Fred Grim is at the helm of Ajax and will see out the remainder of the season in Amsterdam. However, there is an imminent need for a new head coach to lead the team moving forward. Do we already have an idea of who that might be?

Eder Sarabia appears to be quite busy with Ajax.

Regarding potential coaching candidates in the capital and the role of new technical director Jordi Cruijff in this search, Voetbal International previously noted: “Cruijff is, of course, very well-acquainted with the Spanish market, where various intriguing coaches are available for Ajax. Iñígo Pérez from Rayo Vallecano has been monitored for some time, while Eder Sarabia from Elche and Míchel from Girona have also made a name for themselves. Speaking of Spaniards, Roberto Martínez, one of Cruijff’s close friends, has an expiring contract as head coach of Portugal.”

Controversy at Barça

Sarabia is currently in charge of Elche, positioned eleventh in LaLiga. Previously, he served as an assistant coach at FC Barcelona in 2020; however, that tenure was far from successful. He became the center of controversy when footage surfaced of him publicly criticizing Barcelona players from the dugout. He then took over at FC Andorra (owned by Gerard Piqué) before being appointed by Elche. This summer, it is highly likely that he will seek a new opportunity, and based on his social media activity, a move to Ajax could very well be on the horizon.
