Union Berlin Extends Steffen Baumgart s ContractUnion Berlin Extends Steffen Baumgart s Contract

Union Berlin has officially announced the extension of head coach Steffen Baumgart’s contract with the club, as they currently sit in ninth place in the league standings.

Baumgart took the helm at Union just over a year ago, succeeding Bo Svensson. Under his leadership, the team has successfully avoided relegation and transformed the Stadion An der Alten Försterei into a formidable home ground, nearly overcoming Bayern Munich in both league and DFB Pokal matches this season.

Managing Director Horst Heldt expressed his confidence in Baumgart’s leadership, stating, “Steffen took over the team during a difficult period and managed to bring stability and clarity. The developments of the past few months demonstrate that we are on the right track. Every day, we see how united everyone is, both on and off the pitch. That’s why we are convinced that we will continue down this path together.”

The exact duration of Baumgart’s new contract has not been disclosed, as the club has opted not to reveal the lengths of contracts.

Since his appointment, Baumgart has achieved an average of 1.37 points per game. This record places him slightly behind former head coach Urs Fischer, who averaged 1.53 points per game, and just below Uwe Neuhaus, who managed the team for seven years between 2007 and 2014, averaging 1.48 points per game.
