Union Berlin Offered Raheem Sterling A Missed OpportunityUnion Berlin Offered Raheem Sterling A Missed Opportunity

Sky Germany reports that Union Berlin was presented with the opportunity to sign former Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.

The former England international has been without a club since mutually parting ways with the Premier League side earlier this transfer window.

Horst Heldt, the director of football for Die Eisernen, confirmed this development to Sky, stating: “Sometimes you have to rub your eyes. In this case, it didn’t really seem serious. We didn’t pursue it any further.”

Given that Sterling was earning an estimated £325,000 per week, it is understandable why the club chose not to pursue the opportunity.

This situation exemplifies the unpredictability often seen during the later stages of the transfer window. If Union had decided to move forward with Sterling, it could have echoed their unsuccessful pursuit of Isco three years ago or Leonardo Bonucci’s short-lived tenure in Berlin.

The prospect of Sterling playing under Steffen Baumgart is intriguing, particularly considering how he might integrate into a team known for its hard work and cohesive play.
