Valencia Coach Carlos Corberán Reflects on Draw Against Elche

Valencia’s head coach, Carlos Corberán, reflected on the 1-1 draw against Elche at Mestalla, expressing regret over the team’s lack of effectiveness. He noted that the match presented ample opportunities to secure three points, stating, “Football is significantly influenced by the accuracy of opportunities. Today, one team completely exhausted themselves and created chances, while the opponent capitalized on their single shot on goal to take the lead,” he remarked in an interview with DAZN. Corberán emphasized that the Valencia side generated a considerable volume of chances that could have led to a win.

The coach acknowledged that the team is currently facing a challenging phase in terms of results. “We are aware that we are not in our best moment. Today, we aimed to change that and strengthen our position at Mestalla, but unfortunately, that did not materialize,” he commented. Despite the draw, he urged recognition of the team’s efforts: “We must value the team’s hard work, even if the result is insufficient. We have no choice but to persist until we achieve our objectives.”

Corberán admitted that a lack of precision in critical moments affected the final score. “We lacked accuracy in decisive actions,” he stated. Nevertheless, he praised the team’s commitment: “I highly value the dedication and effort displayed by the squad. We need to improve and remain persistent to overcome this poor run of results.”

The coach also addressed Thierry Correia’s injury, noting that it is currently impossible to assess its severity. On a sporting note, he acknowledged that the situation is “not good,” but called for mental fortitude: “We must be aware and focus on the positives. We shouldn’t speak excessively; the fans want to see results, and it is up to us to deliver.”

Finally, Corberán confirmed that the club is actively seeking reinforcements in the winter transfer market. He highlighted the urgency of acquiring a central defender following Mouctar Diakhaby’s injury, stating, “The central defense position needs to be addressed urgently.”
