VfL Wolfsburg has officially announced the dismissal of head coach Paul Simonis. The Bundesliga club confirmed this decision on Sunday evening, stating that Daniel Bauer, the current head coach of the Wolfsburg U19 team, will take over the team’s management for the time being. Bauer previously served as interim coach, guiding the German Wolves during the final two league matches of the last season following the release of Ralph Hasenhüttl. The announcement was made by Wolfsburg’s managing director, Peter Christiansen, who has himself indicated he may not remain with the club beyond this weekend. Coaches such as Urs Fischer, Tim Walter, and former VfL Wolfsburg player Bruno Labbadia have been mentioned as potential candidates to fill the head coach position. In his statement, Christiansen made it clear that he and sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz share responsibility for the current state of the team. He expressed the need for careful deliberation in selecting a new head coach, understanding that another unsuccessful appointment could jeopardize their positions. “The decision to release Paul Simonis was not an easy one for us,” Christiansen stated in the club’s official announcement. “We greatly appreciated his work, his ideas, and his interactions with the team. This step is personally painful for me. We all bear responsibility for the current situation: the sporting management, the coaching team, the players, and the entire club.” He added, “We are pleased that Daniel Bauer is stepping in during this challenging phase. We know his methods and are confident that, together with the team, he can implement the necessary changes for positive development.” GGFN | Peter Weis Post navigation Ongoing Protests Against Roger Wittmann at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
