VfL Wolfsburg has confirmed that their in-form striker, Dzenan Pejcinovic, will be unavailable for this weekend’s Bundesliga match against 1. FC Heidenheim. Head coach Daniel Bauer disclosed during a pre-match press conference on Friday that Pejcinovic sustained a foot injury during Wednesday night’s league victory over St. Pauli. Despite the injury, the 20-year-old demonstrated remarkable resilience by scoring the winning goal in that match.

Bauer officially confirmed Pejcinovic’s absence for the upcoming fixture.

Pejcinovic’s absence is crucial, as he has scored four of his team’s last five goals over the past three Bundesliga matches. Notably, he is the only VfL player to have netted from open play in the last three games. Alongside Christen Eriksen, who successfully converted a penalty against St. Pauli, Pejcinovic stands as one of the few players to have contributed to the scoresheet for a team that has recently set a record for own-goals in the Bundesliga.

Earlier this season, Pejcinovic struggled to find his form until he achieved a hat trick in a losing effort against SC Freiburg just before the winter break. Now, having scored in three consecutive matches, he has quickly elevated his tally from zero to five goals in the German top flight.

In light of Pejcinovic’s absence, Mohamed Amoura is likely to step in. The Algerian international was among the 11 Bundesliga players eliminated during the ongoing AFCON quarterfinals, which has proven to be a challenging round for the 14 Bundesliga professionals still competing in the tournament.

Amoura made a substitute appearance in the match against St. Pauli, alongside Danish forward Adam Daghim, who also came off the bench. Although Amoura typically excels as a left-sided attacker, he has experience playing as a center forward during his AFCON tenure. This versatility suggests that Bauer may position Amoura at the top of his 4-2-3-1 formation. The 25-year-old has been impressive this season, tallying six goals and three assists in 15 league appearances.
