Vicente has traded Spain for Birmingham in a transfer valued at approximately €8 million (£7 million/$9.5 million), a significant investment for a second-tier club that reflects Birmingham City’s aspirations to ascend to the top flight.

Upon his arrival, Vicente shared insights with the club’s media about how Tom Brady influenced his decision to move to England. He described feeling star-struck during a phone conversation with the legendary NFL quarterback regarding the potential transfer.

The 26-year-old forward scored 10 goals and provided three assists for Alaves in 25 appearances during the first half of the season, marking a notable acquisition for Birmingham. He made his Championship debut for the club on Saturday, contributing an assist in a 2-0 victory against Oxford United, bringing the team closer to the top six.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Vicente stated, “These past two weeks have been really intense, but when I heard about Birmingham, I felt genuinely happy and interested in the project here. I’m thrilled to be here.”

He emphasized the importance of feeling wanted by the club: “The opportunity, the project, and how much they expressed wanting me were crucial in my decision. I had numerous discussions with Craig Gardner, Chris Davies, and even with owners Tom Brady and Tom Wagner, who conveyed their eagerness for my arrival. So, I’m delighted to finally be here.”

Vicente recounted the surreal experience of speaking with Brady: “It was incredible. When I got the call from Tom Brady, I thought, ‘Wow, what am I doing here?’ It’s truly exciting when someone of his stature reaches out to tell you that you are valued. I am proud of this moment.”

He articulated his determination to help Birmingham achieve Premier League promotion: “This is a significant challenge for me, and I believe the team and the city deserve to rise to the Premier League. I’m motivated to fulfill this challenge, as I feel my playing style aligns well with the demands here. I aim to step on the field and deliver quality football.”

Describing his playing style, Vicente said, “I am a vertical player who thrives in open spaces, scoring goals and assisting strikers. Additionally, I can contribute defensively. My energy and verticality on the pitch will be beneficial for both myself and the team.”

He concluded by stating, “This is one of the biggest challenges of my life, and the goal is clear: to achieve promotion and make a significant impact. I am here to give my all for the team’s objectives.”

Birmingham City is clearly on the rise, with aspirations to enter the Premier League soon. Plans for a new 62,000-seat stadium, dubbed the ‘Powerhouse,’ are underway, with hopes for completion by the start of the 2030-31 season.

As for the current season, Chris Davies’ squad remains in close contention for the play-off spots and has strengthened their roster significantly with five new signings in January, with Vicente aiming to play a crucial role in their promotion campaign.
