Victor Boniface Faces Season Ending Surgery Amid StrugglesVictor Boniface Faces Season Ending Surgery Amid Struggles

According to Sport Bild, Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface is likely to undergo season-ending knee surgery. The Nigerian forward’s loan stint at fellow Bundesliga club Werder Bremen has been nothing short of disastrous. Consequently, medical staff at Leverkusen are reportedly eager to remove the 24-year-old from the pitch and out of the public eye.

Initially, Leverkusen sought to loan Boniface to a Serie A club; however, negotiations fell through due to a failed medical examination and concerns regarding his fitness.

Upon joining Werder Bremen, Boniface arrived in poor physical condition, prompting head coach Horst Steffen to comment that, despite Boniface’s undeniable talent, he would need to gradually work towards achieving match fitness.

Steffen did not shy away from expressing his dissatisfaction with Boniface’s inconsistent performances during substitute appearances. The 13-time capped international further complicated his situation by sharing cryptic posts on social media, which reflected a lack of commitment to improving his fitness.

To date, Boniface has yet to score a goal for his loan club. He was initially given starting opportunities in matches eight and nine, but after disappointing performances, his playing time was significantly reduced, with only four appearances as a substitute thereafter. A knee injury sustained during the “Nordderby” loss to Hamburger SV has kept him from training for the past two weeks.

Transfermarkt has downgraded Boniface’s estimated market value twice this autumn. Once valued at €40 million at the start of the season, his worth has now plummeted to €12 million following two significant reductions.
