Villarreal’s Christmas Toast: Reflecting on the Year Ahead

Villarreal recently held its traditional Christmas toast, during which club president Fernando Roig reflected on the year gone by. Roig expressed a moderate level of satisfaction with the current season but noted that the objectives set for the Champions League have not been met this year. He outlined clear goals for head coach Marcelino and the team for the remainder of the season: to qualify once again for the upcoming Champions League.

“We have had a good year; we have managed to play in the Champions League this season. Our performance in La Liga has been exceptional, but we fell short in the Cup and the Champions League, where I believe we should have earned more points,” he stated in a message delivered in front of the club’s staff in La Plana.

Roig expressed gratitude for the work accomplished so far and highlighted the objective for 2026: “We need to return to the Champions League. It is a crucial goal that both the coach and players must keep in mind. All of us must work towards this aim. Achieving this would be a tremendous triumph, as it would mark the first time in the club’s history that we have played in consecutive years. It is challenging, as participation affects all other aspects, but we are on track to achieve it twice. This would be a significant source of pride and success,” he concluded.
