Vinícius Júnior took to social media to mock Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone following their encounter in the Spanish Supercopa, stating, “you’ve lost another knockout tie,” in response to a video showcasing their confrontation.

Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory against Atlético Madrid in the semifinal held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, thereby advancing to the final against Barcelona. However, much of the post-match discourse focused on the incident involving Simeone and Vinícius.

Television cameras captured the two engaging in a debate regarding an Atlético penalty appeal during the first half, with Simeone allegedly suggesting that Real Madrid would “get rid of him” in reference to Vinícius.

Both Simeone and Vinícius received yellow cards after an exchange of words as Vinícius was substituted late in the match, prompting intervention from Real Madrid’s coach Xabi Alonso and other staff members.

After the match, Simeone declined to comment on the altercation, claiming he could not recall their conversation. Alonso, however, expressed his disapproval of Simeone’s actions, stating he did not appreciate the incident and that certain behaviors should not be tolerated.

Later, in a post on Instagram, Vinícius remarked, “you’ve lost another knockout tie,” referencing a reel of the touchline fracas shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Currently, Vinícius is experiencing a challenging phase, having gone 16 consecutive matches in all competitions without scoring. Reports from ESPN indicate that negotiations regarding a new contract with Real Madrid have stalled, with his existing agreement set to expire in 2027.

On the field, Federico Valverde opened the scoring for Madrid with an early free kick, followed by Rodrygo doubling the lead, before Alexander Sørloth managed to narrow the gap for Atlético.

When questioned about his comments to Vinícius, Simeone told Movistar, “I don’t have anything to say. Things that happen on the pitch stay on the pitch,” adding in a later news conference, “I don’t remember … I have a bad memory.”

Alonso, addressing Simeone’s conduct, remarked, “I didn’t like it. Those things cross a line in terms of respect for a colleague … What he said isn’t an example of good sportsmanship. There’s a limit.”
