VVCS Criticizes AZ and NEC s Engagement with Jorge Mendes for Player TransfersVVCS Criticizes AZ and NEC s Engagement with Jorge Mendes for Player Transfers

The players’ union VVCS has released a damning statement in response to the news that AZ and NEC are utilizing the services of super agent Jorge Mendes to facilitate top transfers for their star players, Kees Smit and Kodai Sano.

The involvement of Jorge Mendes is not being well received.

According to the VVCS, the Eredivisie clubs believe that Mendes can help them generate more money from their players. “Guido Albers has recently positioned himself as an intermediary for Jorge Mendes for Dutch clubs. In addition to AZ, NEC will also engage Mendes’ services. The objective is quite clear: to realize exorbitant buyout clauses for Kees Smit and Kodai Sano,” the VVCS states.

The VVCS argues that the strategies of AZ, NEC, and Albers are outdated.

The union is calling for football associations to take action and has warned, “While buyout clauses will continue to exist, they must be proportionate and foreseeable. If this process takes too long, we might see players resorting to regular courts based on the Diarra ruling. The ideas proposed by AZ, NEC, and Albers are, according to the VVCS, indeed outdated.”
