Wayne Rooney Urges Liverpool to Reconsider Mohamed Salah’s Role

omidbasir- Wayne Rooney has urged manager Arne Slot to consider dropping Mohamed Salah in an effort to reignite Liverpool’s faltering form.

Following a disappointing 3-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the defending champions find themselves in 11th place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Arsenal by 11 points.

In the recent match, Salah did not manage to score or assist, marking Liverpool’s sixth defeat in their last seven Premier League outings. The team has also conceded six unanswered goals in their last two league matches, including a prior defeat to Manchester City.

“Salah is not contributing defensively,” Rooney remarked on The Wayne Rooney Show. “If I were one of the new players on the bench, witnessing a teammate not putting in the effort while consistently starting, it would send a troubling message. Given his legendary status at the club, this situation raises questions.

“If I were Arne Slot, I would make a significant decision to impact the rest of the team. When you’re struggling to win, maintaining compactness and resilience is crucial. During this challenging period, Slot must ensure that every player is committed to defending. Once the team starts to win again, Salah can be reintroduced, hopefully with renewed dedication. I believe this change would positively influence the team’s dynamics.”

Rooney’s critique extended beyond Salah, highlighting several senior players who have not met expectations. “Liverpool’s performance has not been up to par, and this concerns more than just van Dijk and Salah,” he stated.

“While they should be leading the team, players like Mac Allister, who has been there for a few years, and Gravenberch, who had a strong season last year, need to step up, rally the team, and work towards restoring a winning mentality.”

He also pointed to the recent tragedy involving Diogo Jota as a potential factor in Liverpool’s struggles. “They’re undoubtedly going through a difficult time. The unfortunate incident regarding Jota may have affected the squad. Having a teammate face such a tragedy surely impacts everyone involved on a personal level.”
