Temperatures in Sheffield plummeted to well below freezing overnight, resulting in the postponement of two Championship matches scheduled for Sunday due to frozen pitches. Several other fixtures in the English Football League (EFL) were also affected.

The 12:00 GMT match between Sheffield United and Oxford United, along with Portsmouth’s game against Ipswich at 15:00, have been called off. In a statement, Sheffield United officials noted that a referee assessed the condition of the Bramall Lane pitch before kick-off and determined that portions of the playing surface were frozen.

Similarly, the match at Fratton Park was postponed after a pitch inspection conducted at 11:00 GMT revealed unsuitable conditions.

In total, ten fixtures in League Two have been canceled, and four matches in League One have also been impacted by the extreme weather. In League One, the games between Doncaster and Luton, Barnsley and Port Vale, Rotherham against Mansfield, and Stevenage versus Leyton Orient were all called off on Sunday.

Additionally, five League Two fixtures had already faced postponements on Saturday, with Barnet versus Crewe, Barrow against Bristol Rovers, Cambridge meeting Grimsby, Colchester clashing with Accrington, and Newport taking on Tranmere failing pitch inspections.
