Werder Bremen has officially appointed Daniel Thioune as their new head coach, replacing Horst Steffen, who was dismissed over the weekend.

Steffen’s departure came as the club found itself precariously positioned in 15th place in the league, only one point ahead of the relegation zone. The team has struggled significantly, having not secured a victory since early November.

Daniel Thioune, who previously managed Hamburger SV and most recently Fortuna Düsseldorf, will take the helm at Bremen. The specifics of his contract length remain undisclosed.

Thioune has been without a managerial role since his termination from Fortuna Düsseldorf in October. Consequently, Werder Bremen will likely need to pay a small transfer fee to release him from his contract, which is set to run until 2028.

Since the decision to part ways with Steffen, Bremen has been linked to various potential head coaches, including Bo Henriksen and Bo Svensson, both of whom declined the opportunity. Additionally, former players Martin Demichelis and Dieter Hecking were also considered for the position.
