omidbasir- West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his embarrassment after his team suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers, currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League.

The loss intensified West Ham’s relegation worries, as first-half goals from Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-Chan, and Mateus Mane delivered a well-deserved victory to a Wolves team that had yet to win this season, despite the match taking place at Molineux on Saturday.

Nuno characterized this defeat as the worst of his managerial career, leaving West Ham four points adrift of safety in 18th place. The Portuguese manager, previously dismissed by Nottingham Forest this season, headed straight down the tunnel following the final whistle, facing mounting pressure after a run of nine matches without a victory.

“I must apologize to the fans; it was embarrassing,” Nuno stated. “There’s not much else to say other than we are truly sorry. What we displayed today was simply not good enough. We urgently require results and points; this is a challenging situation that no one anticipated. Today was the worst performance we have delivered.”

He emphasized the need for a stronger performance from his players: “We needed much more from them. The level at which we played was very poor and frankly, embarrassing. I can’t recall a time when I felt worse on a football pitch.”

Having taken the reins in September after Graham Potter’s brief tenure, speculation surrounds Nuno’s future as head coach. He remarked, “This is not about me; it is about how we can extricate ourselves from this predicament and improve to earn the results necessary to move up the table. That is our primary concern.”

Nuno clarified his quick exit from the pitch was not intended to disrespect Wolves manager Rob Edwards, stating, “I have known Robert for many years and have immense respect for him.”

Edwards, celebrating his first win in nine games as Wolves manager and the club’s first league victory since last April, noted, “I’ve seen Nuno now; we shook hands, so everything is fine.”

Wolves had recently shown resilience, drawing against Manchester United and carried that momentum into the match, with Arias scoring just four minutes in. Hwang’s penalty and a superb strike from 18-year-old Mane further sealed the match’s outcome before halftime.

Edwards expressed relief at the victory, saying, “It feels good—probably a mix of relief and pleasure. It’s been a good day, and while we should celebrate, it is just one win. We are building, we are progressing, and improving, but sometimes even after a successful match, one can feel a bit flat. There’s a sense of ‘Thank God for that.’ I feel a bit like that right now.”
