VfL Wolfsburg has announced that Danish striker Jonas Wind has suffered a significant thigh injury, which necessitated surgery. The club disclosed on Wednesday that the 26-year-old will be out of action indefinitely, with expectations that he may not return until after the conclusion of the 2025 calendar year.

Currently facing administrative challenges, Wolfsburg will need to urgently seek additional attacking options during the upcoming January transfer window. According to reports from the local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, the club is intensifying efforts to acquire Niclas Füllkrug from West Ham United, although progress in negotiations has been slow.

Initially, Füllkrug was linked with both Wolfsburg and Augsburg; however, it appears that Augsburg has recently withdrawn their interest in the 32-year-old forward. The German club is now considering several alternatives, including the possibility of securing Füllkrug on loan or negotiating a split transfer fee.

Wolfsburg’s ability to negotiate with West Ham is complicated by the absence of a sporting director, which could hinder discussions. Should negotiations for Füllkrug become too challenging, Wolfsburg might also revisit potential talks with Norwich City regarding a transfer for American striker Josh Sargent, who was close to joining the club last summer before discussions fell through over the transfer fee.
